Four miles, and no useful bus

The distance is the whole decision

Eighteen of the searches that reach this cemetery are about parking or directions, and they are really one question.

Parking is free, and there is not much of it

There are small parking areas beside each entrance gate, another near the start of the historic section, and places to pull over on the wider avenues inside. None of it costs anything. All of it fills on a good spring weekend, and the cemetery is a working one - people are here to visit graves, not sights, so leave the closest spaces alone and drive at a walking pace throughout.

Without a car, the arithmetic changes

Four miles east of the historic district, with no bus route a visitor would sensibly use. A return rideshare from downtown will cost a meaningful fraction of a guided tour, and it leaves you standing in 100 acres with a phone. That is the honest reason the tours here are priced as they are: you are largely buying the journey. If you have a car and an afternoon, the free option is genuinely competitive.

Get there early

The gates are open 08:00 to 17:00 every day, and the first two hours are the best of them - the light through the live oaks is the reason most people photograph this place, the parking is empty, and the tour groups have not arrived. Late afternoon in summer is hot, crowded and flat-lit. This is the cheapest improvement you can make to a visit and it costs nothing.
